Thomas Maundy’s maker’s mark, T over M, is recorded in Jacksons on page 119 with slightly different designs on each of our pieces.
A very rare pair of Dessert Stands; London 1639 and 1640; the circular bowls are decorated with alternating spiral bead and foliate decoration; each stand approximately 2 1/4 inches in height on spreading feet; they are fully marked under the rim and lion passant marks under the feet.
Approx 2 ½ inches in height
Each are approximately 8 3/4 inches in diameter and weight 9ozs.; The central reserve of each of the stands have pinpricked initials ‘S over I.E.’ and under the feet there are scratched initials ‘P over R.M.’. being probably a later generation of the original owner.
A similar example of this type of dessert stand by Thomas Maundy is illustrated in Michael Clayton’s Dictionary, plate 223 on page 150.
