Description
An important Venetian Loving Cup; late 15th/ early 16th century; slightly greyish cristallo glass decorated with gilt and various coloured enamels; examples of the ‘flame’ decoration ( often referred to as San Bernardino rays) can be found on glass beakers and ewers, and majolica, of this period; the cup measures 8.2 cm in height and 14.3 cm in diameter across the top of the bowl.
Provenance: The Fitzhenry collection, Paris; more recently in the Van Beek collection. Amsterdam.
