Description
A very rare silver and parcel gilt Thimble, German c.1609, the base inset with an armorial carved in rock crystal. The side with motto “Wen Gott will Ist Mein Zill 1690” the piece would have had a detachable top now missing. There is an example complete with its top in the Wellby collection at The Ashmolean Museum in Oxford and other examples in the V&A, and museums in Berlin and Nurembug, which is almost certainly where this piece would have been made.
